READING CLASS-  TERMS YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW

GENRE-  GENRE IS THE ‚TYPE OF BOOK.  FOR EXAMPLE, FANTASY, ADVENTURE, BIOGRAPHY, HISTORICAL FICTION, SCIENCE FICTION.

CHARACTERS-  CHARACTERS ARE THE MAIN  PLAYERS OF THE STORY.  THEY CAN BE PEOPLE, ANIMALS, CREATURES, ALIENS ETC. 

SETTING-  SETTING IS WHERE AND WHEN THE STORY TAKES PLACE.  YOU MUST REMEMBER THAT SETTING IS NOT ONLY THE WHERE OF THE STORY BUT ALSO WHEN IT TAKES PLACE.

(Every fictional story has characters and a setting and they are usually introduced in the beginning of the story , that is called the EXPOSITION of the story)

PLOT IS THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS OR ACTION OF THE STORY.

*EXPOSITION- the beginning of the story where the characters and setting is introduced and background information is discussed.

*RISING ACTION- this is where the author describes the conflict or the problem that the characters must face.  As the characters struggle to solve the problem, tensions rise.

*CLIMAX- the turning point of the story.  At this point, the problem is at its worst, and the characters may have begun to think of a way to solve it.

*FALLING ACTION- is the part where the author describes how the problem is solved.

*RESOLUTION- comes after the falling action and brings the story to a satisfactory end.

POINT OF VIEW- THE PERSPECTIVE FROM WHICH A STORY IS TOLD. 

FIRST PERSON- USES ‚  I - ME-MY

THIRD PERSON- USES- HE ‚ SHE- IT-THEY-

WHAT IS A PERSONAL NARRATIVE?  A STORY ABOUT ONE MOMENT IN TIME (ZOOM IN MOMENT) THAT USES SENSORY DETAIL AND IT IS WRITTEN IN THE FIRST PERSON.

THEME IS THE MAIN IDEA OR STATEMENT ABOUT LIFE THAT THE AUTHOR WISHES TO EXPRESS.

BOOKTALK-  A CREATIVE BOOK PRESENTATION THAT BEGINS WITH A GRABBER TO GET THE AUDIENCE‚ÄôS ATTENTION.  IT TELLS AN EXCITING PART OF THE STORY AND ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER ( A STATEMENT THAT KEEPS THE AUDIENCE WONDERING HOW THE BOOK WILL END OR HOW AN EXCITING OR SUSPENSFUL PART OF THE STORY WILL END)

SENSORY DETAIL- USE OF THE FIVE SENSES TO HELP MAKE A STORY EXCITING.
