FABLES AND FOLKTALES

We will be reading fables and folktales this week in reading class.  One thing that is always true of these little stories is that they were written to teach a lesson.

With fables, the main characters are always animals.

Fables and folktales hint at approved ways of behaving such as:

Being honest

Working hard

Liking all people

Treating people with kindness

Sharing with one another

Helping someone in need

Planning for the future

Treating others they way you would like to be treated

To be careful of what you wish for

Showing respect for your elders

There are many other lessons that are taught through fables and folktales that you may also find!

Project for first week of January!

1. Read several fables and folktales.

2. Think about the lesson or moral of the story.

3. Choose one fable or folktale that has a message that would be important for a middle school student to learn.

4. Create an awesome‚ story page‚ as if you were going to include this story in a library collection!

5. Use this moral/lesson as your lesson theme.

6. Create a title to your story such as ‚"The Tortoise and the Hare."

7. Lastly‚

Using the moral or lesson you wrote down, design your own fable/tale.  Your tale must feature a situation that a Schalmont Middle School student might encounter.  The characters should be ones that you have made up.  In the case of the fable, the characters need to be animals.  In the case of the folktale, the characters can be people.

Once you have written your version of the fable/tale, you must sketch an illustration that would go along with your story.

Finally, you are to type or neatly print your new story.

 CONGRATULATIONS!  YOU ARE NOW THE
AUTHOR OF A FABLE OR FOLKTALE ! ! !
